Cerium overlays have been designed for use by people with reading difficulties. The use of an overlay has been shown by The Medical Research Council's Applied Psychology Unit at Cambridge to enable reading speeds to be maintained for longer periods and increased performance in visual search tasks. The same research study also demonstrated the colour selected will vary for each person.
The examination pack consists of:
- two A5 sets of overlays
- a pack of recording sheets
- examination targets
- full instructions for assessment
Full size overlays (A4 size) are available and should be used for all reading tasks away from the test situation.
The examination targets consist of random blocks of text. This is to help concentrate attention on to the clarity of the text as opposed to the meaning. The size of type used should be varied according to the age and the standard of vision of the person under examination. A few people may find the lack of meaning in the text disturbing and for them a passage of the appropriate level may be used provided that it is printed on a non-reflective white background.

Returns
If your item does is not quite what you expected or is unsuitable for any other reason, we will happily take it back and refund your money but may have to charge additional postage. Any items returned to us must be in re-saleable condition. If an item is faulty we will of course replace it or refund your money if a replacement is unavailable. Please note that items that are damaged as a result of wear and tear are not considered faulty. All faulty items must be returned to The Dyslexia Shop in the same condition as when it left our depot, in it’s original and undamaged packaging.
We cannot take responsibility for returned items lost without proof of delivery and the item is your responsibility until it reaches us.
