Quick Overview

The reading ruler is a flexible transparent coloured plastic strip (205mm x 74mm) overprinted to divide the ruler into a 10mm transparent strip on one edge and 30mm transparent strip with tracking line on the other.

These rulers combine the glare reduction benefit of reading through a coloured overlay with the guidance of a ruled line to assist tracking.

Available in 10 new colours, to match the Crossbow A4 colour overlays.

Product Description

To Use

Allow the child to chose whichever colour he/she feels confident with. Don't worry if you think there might be a certain amount of "I like pink" in the decision. Children can change from day to day and they soon settle with what is really useful to them with no harm done.

Early readers might find it useful to use the narrow band at the top which can be trimmed to be just wide enough for one line of text, if helpful.

For really easily distracted or emergent readers a small central enclosed line can be made by taping over the wide transparent strip 6 or 7 millimetres below the opaque bit of the ruler, so that all words except the present line are completely blocked out.

The rulers can be trimmed to fit in pencil cases or cut in half to keep in a dictionary.

The aim should eventually be to read from the tracking line down on the wide edge so that the student learns to scan ahead if necessary.
