The second of two books intended for use by eye care professionals, occupational therapists and special educational needs teachers. They contain a series of visual exercises, developed by Dr Nadia Northway PhD BA DBO SRO as part of a university study. The more advanced exercises in this book can be used in a variety of ways and are suitable for use with children who are experiencing difficulty with reading, writing, spelling and copying. These exercises can help develop the visual skills needed in classroom activities. The Exercises The exercises are designed to be fun and not like school work. They child may even find them easy! Easy does not mean - not working. There are five different activities, Arrow direction and discrimination: This exercise is used to help with left and right discrimination. Find the letter: This exercise is to try and help the child to discriminate the letters commonly confused such as b and d and p and q. Spot the difference: This exercise is intended to improve visual discrimination of both abstract shapes (simpler) and letters (reinforcing the "FInd the Letter" exercise). Symbol sequences: These exercises are used to help develop visual sequential memory. Picture, symbol and letter visual spatial memory: These exercises are variants on the well known "pairs" game and help to develop visual sequential memory. The exercises are suitable for children aged 5 and upwards. Usage The booklet contains single copies of each exercise and is licenced for photocopying at a single site. Each exercise sheet will be used multiple times by the patient so it is advised that they use a polythene pocket or clear plastic sheet to cover their exercise sheet(s). They can then mark the symbols using (e.g.) a dry marker and wipe the cover clean before commencing the next search. The exercise sheets can be used with a coloured overlay if the patient benefits from reading through colour. Also Available Visual Motor and Perceptual Skills Booklet - Level 1: A slim booklet containing a selection of simple exercises and usage instructions, primarily intended for parents. Visual Motor and Perceptual Skills Booklet - Level 2 : A slim booklet containing a selection of more challenging exercises and usage instructions, primarily intended for parents. The two booklets together cover the same range of difficulty as Therapy 1. Visual Motor and Perceptual Skills Therapy 1: The precursor to Therapy 2 that uses symbol matching within a text-like context to develop basic visual motor skills where they have ben found to be poor.
