Long Description

KAZ Type’s SEN/Dyslexia Adult edition was developed with advice and guidance from the British Dyslexia Research Trust especially for individuals with dyslexia. Its multi-sensory program includes vocabulary and imagery suitable for ages 11 + and is used in homes and schools across the country and worldwide.

  • SEN teachers advised us that 10% of their students, the majority suffering from dyslexia, were experiencing visual disturbances caused by white glare from background screens. These disturbances included headaches, blurring, letters rotating, flipping, crowding and running into each other. In order to help address these problems, we talked to dyslexia experts, most notably Dr. Sue Fowler and her team at the Dyslexia Research Trust, Reading Clinic and Oxford University.

  • Over the last fifteen years the Trust have carried out extensive research, trials and visual assessments on over 10,000 children. Results found that the application of a specific frequency of blue filter to help stabilise letter movement and of yellow, to minimise blurring, were extremely successful in the majority of children suffering with visual disturbances and had either improved or completely eliminated their problems – resulting in a rapid improvement in reading skills.

  • They advised us to incorporate their research findings into the KAZ program. So, with further development we produced our SEN/Dyslexia edition, suitable for neurodivergent individuals with: Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD, ASD and Tourette’s, amongst others.

The programs helps address the following challenges:

• Cognitive limitations

• Poor working memory

• Difficulties with spelling

• Slow work rate due to poor penmanship

• Poor and messy handwriting, causing frustration, embarrassment and low self-esteem

• Poor co-ordination, motor skills and physical dexterity, making writing tiresome and even painful

• Anxiety, poor social interaction, poor verbal / written communication

• Poor attention skills

Unique ‘Preference Screen’ - especially effective with dyslexic users.

The program opens with a unique preference screen which minimising visual disturbances before starting the course.

Preferences include:

  • Choice of coloured background/filter screens – for reducing white screen glare
  • Choice of two specific DRT research based background/filter colours - to stabilise letter movement and minimise blurring
  • Choice of dyslexic friendly typefaces (including 2 licensed dyslexic fonts) – for ease of reading
  • Choice of font colour – for contrast from background screen colour
  • Choice of font size – for optimum visibility comfort and to minimise fusing and crowding of letters
  • Choice of Keyboard – for optimum visibility comfort

Once the user has selected their preferences and can read the sample text comfortably, these options are 'Saved' and applied throughout the course, tailor making it and ensuring the learning experience is comfortable and enjoyable.

Additionally, the programs offers a ’Text Only’ option, with written and visual instruction for the hard of hearing and an ‘Audio Descriptive’ option (including speaking keys) for the visually impaired.

The course is designed to be used independently and without supervision.

  • The Method

Unlike other typing tutors based on repetitive exercises and distracting games, KAZ teaches typing skills using specific combinations and progressions of just 11 words in 5 easily memorised, scientifically structured and trademarked phrases. Its multi-sensory approach engages the major senses of sight, sound and touch simultaneously, radically enhancing memory retention and recall - which is why it is so effective.

  • Brain Balance

The unique method trains the fingers on both hands to work symmetrically and simultaneously, a direct result of both hemispheres of the brain working at the same time (brain balance). No other typing tutor works in this way.

  • Muscle Memory

The method also builds muscle memory. With the repetition of real word vocabulary - reading, spelling and vocabulary are engrained to memory and spellings become a series of finger movements and patterns on a keyboard, dramatically reducing the likelihood of transposing and misspelling words.

The programs consists of 5 modules:

  • Flying Start – (Introduces the course, the navigational tool, teaches correct posture whilst sitting at a computer and the meaning, causes, signs, symptoms and preventative measures of Repetitive Strain Injury)
  • The Basics – (Teaches the A-Z keys using 5 scientifically structured and trademarked phrases)
  • Just Do It – (Offers additional exercises using only real word vocabulary, in order to build muscle memory and engrain spelling)
  • And The Rest - (Teaches the punctuation keys)
  • SpeedBuilder – (Offers daily practice - increasing speed and accuracy)

Online - can be accessed wherever there is an internet signal - home, work and on holiday.

Download - No internet access is required once downloaded and installed to your Mac or PC.

The KAZ program has proven so effective and is making a difference to the lives of individuals with dyslexia across the world. This is why so many special needs co-ordinators (sencos) and teachers recommend KAZ.
