All three pens share the same core: offline text-to-speech, personalised reading settings and support for education. The differences lie in connectivity, language tools and exam use. Here is a quick guide to help you choose.

C-Pen Reader 3: the connected all-rounder

The C-Pen Reader 3 offers all the power of the Reader 2, plus online language support. It is the only pen in the range with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and a touchscreen, which unlock:

  • Online text-to-speech and online speech-to-text
  • Offline and online translation
  • Online dictionaries, alongside the offline dictionaries

Best for: whole-class use across multiple students, and especially valuable for EAL learners who benefit from translation.

C-Pen Reader 2: independent reading, classroom to career

The C-Pen Reader 2 works entirely offline. It reads text aloud, includes offline dictionaries and a Practice Mode, and is suitable for both education and workplace use. It does not include translation, online features, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or a touchscreen.

Best for: students from 6 years old through to adults with reading differences such as dyslexia, or anyone with low reading confidence.

C-Pen Exam Reader 2: built for exams

The C-Pen Exam Reader 2 is approved as exam support. To keep it secure and non-advantageous, it provides offline text-to-speech only: there are no dictionaries, no translation, no Practice Mode and no online connectivity. This means students can read exam papers independently, often without needing a human reader.

Best for: students who need independent reading support in exams. Please check current JCQ guidance with your exams officer before use.
