The Flexitable Addition and Subtraction Grid is a folding, hands-on maths resource that shows learners how addition and subtraction facts are linked. It is designed for home and school use, and is especially helpful for learners with dyscalculia and other special educational needs who find it hard to remember number facts.
How it works
The orange numbers across the top and down the left-hand side of the grid are the two numbers being added. The green number where their row and column meet is the answer. By folding the grid along its channels, learners bring the two orange numbers together with their green total, so they can see, for example, that 7 + 6 = 13.
The same grid teaches subtraction. Starting from the green number 13 and one orange number, 7, learners find the missing orange number, 6. This shows that addition and subtraction are two sides of the same fact.
Made from soft, flexible plastic, the grid can be folded again and again and lasts far longer than paper or card.

Support for dyscalculia and SEND
Learners with dyscalculia often struggle to recall number facts and to see that subtraction undoes addition. The Flexitable grid lets them find each answer physically, rather than relying on memory, and shows the whole fact family in one place. Flexitable states that the simplicity of the product is a great help to pupils with dyslexia, dyscalculia or autism, making it a useful multisensory resource for a wide range of SEND learners who learn best one-to-one at their own pace.
Made in England
Flexitable grids are made in England from materials that conform to the EN71-3 safety standard. Whether you are helping one child at home or running a maths intervention group, the Flexitable Addition and Subtraction Grid is a simple, reliable way to build number confidence.
- Orange numbers across the top and down the left-hand side are the addends; green numbers are the sums
- Fold the grid along its channels to bring two numbers and their total together
- Teaches subtraction from the same grid, using the green total and one orange number to find the other
- Made from soft, flexible plastic that can be folded repeatedly
- Single pack includes the grid, plastic coins and counters, Basic Maths teaching notes, 18 pages of Activity Plans and a "How to use" video link
- Activity Plans are downloaded using the QR code supplied with the pack
- Multisensory resource suitable for learners with dyscalculia and other SEND needs
- Materials conform to EN71-3 and US CPSIA safety standards

- What is the Flexitable Addition and Subtraction Grid?
It is a folding plastic grid that shows addition facts and their matching subtraction facts. Orange numbers along the top and left-hand side are added together, and the green number where they meet is the answer. Folding the grid brings the numbers and their total side by side. - What is included in a single Flexitable Addition and Subtraction pack?
Each single pack contains the grid, plastic coins and counters, Basic Maths teaching notes, 18 pages of Activity Plans and a "How to use" video link. The Activity Plans are downloaded using the QR code supplied with the pack. A single pack costs £10.00 plus VAT. - Does the Flexitable Addition and Subtraction Grid help children with dyscalculia?
Yes, it gives learners with dyscalculia a hands-on way to find answers without relying on memorised facts. Folding the grid shows how two numbers make a total, and how that total splits back into its parts. Flexitable states that the simplicity of the product is a great help to pupils with dyscalculia. - Is the Flexitable grid suitable for pupils with SEND?
Yes, it is a multisensory resource suited to many pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Flexitable states it helps pupils with dyslexia or autism as well as those with dyscalculia. It works well one-to-one, so each learner can practise at their own speed. - How does the grid teach subtraction?
It uses the same numbers as addition, worked backwards. Learners start with a green total, such as 13, and one orange number, such as 7, then fold the grid to find the missing number, 6. This shows clearly that subtraction is the inverse of addition. - How can teachers use the Flexitable grid in the classroom?
Teachers can use it for whole-class teaching, small-group interventions or one-to-one support. The 18 pages of Activity Plans give ready-made activities, and the video shows staff how to use the grid. Multi-grid packs are also listed for schools equipping a group or class. - Can parents use the grid at home?
Yes, it is a simple way to practise addition and subtraction at home. The teaching notes, Activity Plans and "How to use" video guide parents step by step, so no specialist knowledge is needed. The coins and counters let children check sums with real objects. - What age is the Flexitable Addition and Subtraction Grid suitable for?
It suits children learning addition and subtraction facts, which begin in Year 1 of England's National Curriculum, and older pupils who still need support with number facts. The pack contains small parts, so it is not suitable for children under 3 years.
