Why We're Stocking the ChompSaw

Why We're Stocking the ChompSaw

Introducing the ChompSaw: A New Way to Unlock Creativity

We're really excited to be stocking ChompSaw products at The Dyslexia Shop, and I wanted to take a moment to explain why we've chosen to add them.

Creativity is a strength, not a bonus.

Something I feel really strongly about is that many people with dyslexia have an incredible imagination and a natural ability to think in a different way. They see the world differently, they come up with ideas others wouldn't, and they have a real gift for picturing things in their head. The challenge isn't finding that creativity. It's finding the right outlet for it.

That's where the ChompSaw comes in.

What is the ChompSaw?

The ChompSaw is a child-safe power tool designed for cutting cardboard. It's safety certified from age 3 and has won multiple industry awards, including recognition from the Toy Industry Association. Children use it to cut, shape, and build almost anything they can imagine, from vehicles and buildings to puppets and armour.

It looks and feels like a real tool, and that's part of the point. It gives children a sense of genuine achievement, something they've actually made with their own hands.

Why it works so well for dyslexia

For children who find reading and writing hard, hands-on making can be genuinely life-changing. When a child can take an idea straight from their imagination and turn it into something real, the confidence that builds is hard to match. There's no right or wrong answer, no spelling to worry about, no page to struggle through. There's just the idea, and the making of it.

The ChompSaw supports that kind of learning really well. It's open-ended, it's tactile, and it rewards imagination and problem-solving in a way that plays to so many of the strengths we see in children with dyslexia.

Why it's also brilliant for dyspraxia

We also love the ChompSaw for children with dyspraxia. Using the tool asks children to grip, guide, and control the saw with real intention and focus. That kind of hands-on, purposeful activity is a brilliant way to build fine motor skills, but in a way that doesn't feel like practice. It feels like building something. And that makes all the difference.

A great companion to the Makedo Kits

If you're already using Makedo Kits, the ChompSaw is a really natural next step. Makedo gives you the connectors and tools to join cardboard together. The ChompSaw means you can cut it cleanly and precisely first. Together, they open up so much more of what children can actually build. The two work brilliantly alongside each other, and we think a lot of you will love having both.

The bigger picture

I really believe in finding tools that meet children where their strengths are. For so many children with dyslexia or dyspraxia, those strengths are in their imagination, in how they think, in their ability to picture something and then go and make it. Products like the ChompSaw give those strengths somewhere to go.

We're really proud to be adding it to our range. We hope you love it.
