The ARK Krypto-Bite® Chewable Tube Necklace is a chewable pendant necklace that gives children and adults a safe, discreet outlet for oral sensory input. It is designed for people with SEND or sensory needs who chew their shirt collars, sleeves, pencils or fingers, and offers a hard-wearing alternative that is always within reach.

How the Krypto-Bite Tube Necklace works

The Krypto-Bite Tube Necklace uses the same prism-shaped design as the ARK Krypto-Bite® Gem Necklace, but the pendant hangs horizontally. The cord runs through the whole pendant rather than just the top, so bringing it up to the mouth mimics the familiar motion of pulling up a shirt collar to chew. This makes it a natural replacement for collar and sleeve chewing.

The pendant measures 5.6 cm (2.2 inches) wide and just under 1.3 cm (0.5 inches) in diameter. It is made from medical-grade elastomer in ARK Therapeutic's own factory in Columbia, South Carolina, USA, and comes on a 76 cm (30 inch) adjustable breakaway cord.

Choosing the right toughness

  • Standard: the softest level, for mild chewers who do not chew through anything. Available in Red, Magenta, Dark Blue, Light Grey and Translucent Green.
  • Medium (XT): firmer but still fairly chewy, for moderate chewers. Available in Lime Green, Teal, Black, Dark Red and Translucent Blue.
  • Toughest (XXT): very firm and durable, for avid chewers. Available in Royal Blue, Forest Green, Lavender, Dark Grey and Translucent Red.

For schools

  • Gives pupils with SEND a hygienic, personal chew tool in place of chewing uniform, pencils or classroom equipment.
  • Colour-coded toughness levels help SENCOs, teaching assistants and occupational therapists match the right firmness to each pupil.
  • Worn around the neck, so it stays with the pupil between lessons, at break time and on school trips.
  • Can form part of the sensory provision set out in a pupil's support plan or EHCP.

For parents and home use

  • Helps protect school uniform and clothes from collar and sleeve chewing.
  • Quick to clean by hand or on the top rack of the dishwasher.
  • A jewellery-style design that children and teenagers are happy to wear.
  • Suitable from 3 years of age with direct adult supervision.

Supporting SEND and sensory needs

Many children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) seek oral sensory input by chewing. Chewing gives firm pressure through the jaw, which many people find calming and organising. A dedicated chew necklace gives this need a safe, appropriate outlet, rather than trying to stop the behaviour altogether.

Safety

Caution: This product is not a toy. It contains small parts that may pose a choking hazard and is suitable for ages 3 years and over with direct supervision. The clasp and cord are not intended for chewing. Inspect the pendant regularly and replace it at the first sign of wear. No chew tool is indestructible, and the lifespan of each pendant depends on how hard it is chewed. We are unable to offer refunds on chews that have been used.

Finding the right chew is often a process of trial and error. If you are unsure which toughness to choose, please contact our team for friendly advice.
