The Chewbuddy™ Pl!ng Grab Chew by Sensory Direct is a textured, exclamation-mark-shaped sensory chew on a detachable safety lanyard. It is designed to be easy to grip and hold, and is ideal for back-of-the-mouth chewers. It gives autistic children, children with ADHD and anyone with sensory processing differences a safer alternative to chewing fingers, sleeves, pencils and toys.
Choose the right strength
This listing is for a single Pl!ng, available in two strengths:
- Standard: for mild to moderate chewers, biters and mouthers who enjoy the sensory feedback from the textures and shapes. Available in Blue, Red, Green and Purple.
- Tuff: slightly harder, for moderate to strong chewers, biters and mouthers who get most of their sensory input from biting down. Available in Orange, Yellow, Black and Navy.
Each Pl!ng measures 12cm long, 6cm wide and 1.7cm thick, and weighs 28g. It is soft enough not to damage teeth, yet strong enough for biting.
Safe, durable and easy to clean
The Pl!ng is made in the UK from non-toxic, medical grade material that is free from BPA, PVC, latex, cadmium, lead and phthalates. It can be washed with water and mild soap, cleaned in a dishwasher, or sterilised.
For schools
- Supports regulation in class: a wearable chew helps pupils meet their sensory needs without leaving the lesson.
- Protects belongings: gives pupils who chew an appropriate alternative to pencils, cuffs and sleeves.
- Easy for small hands: the grab shape is simple to hold, including for pupils with weaker grip.
- Hygienic: dishwasher safe and sterilisable, so it is easy to keep clean in a busy setting.
For parents and home use
- Saves clothes and fingers: redirects chewing away from sleeves, collars and nails.
- Reaches the back teeth: the long shape suits children who like to chew with their back teeth.
- Always to hand: the detachable lanyard keeps the chew within reach at home, at school and out and about.
- Peace of mind: free from BPA, PVC, latex and phthalates.
How it helps
Autism: many autistic children and adults chew to self-regulate, reduce anxiety or cope with busy environments. The Pl!ng provides calming oral input in a safe, wearable form.
ADHD: children with ADHD often chew to help them focus and settle. The Pl!ng gives that input quietly, helping them stay on task without chewing pens or clothing.
Sensory processing differences: sensory seekers who crave oral input can use the Pl!ng as part of a sensory diet, with ridges and textures that give extra feedback.
Chewbuddy chews are durable but not indestructible. Check for wear before and during use, and replace the chew if wear is evident. If you are unsure which strength to choose, our team at The Dyslexia Shop is happy to help.
