What is the Original Polydron Frameworks Basic Set?

The Original Polydron Frameworks Basic Set (code 10-3005F) is a 280-piece geometry construction kit from Polydron for children aged 6 and over. It contains 160 equilateral triangles, 80 squares and 40 pentagons in 4 colours, plus an Exploring Frameworks activity booklet. The set lets smaller groups of children explore the three main shapes: triangles, squares and pentagons.

What can children learn with Polydron Frameworks?

Polydron Frameworks pieces let children see inside the shape and explore the space within. Polydron describes the range as ideal for investigating shapes, angles, edges, vertices, planes and tangents. The pieces are lightweight and easy to connect, which makes the set good for building larger shapes and models. With 280 pieces, there is enough for several children to build at once. Frameworks is fully compatible with the Original Polydron range.

For schools

  • Supports maths teaching on 3D shape, edges, vertices and angles at KS1, KS2 and KS3.
  • Seeing inside a model helps pupils count hidden edges and vertices.
  • 280 pieces suit small group work and larger collaborative builds.
  • Concrete resource for Quality First Teaching and SEND provision.
  • Dishwasher safe at 70°C for shared classroom use.

For parents and home use

  • Lightweight pieces make big, ambitious models possible at home.
  • The Exploring Frameworks booklet offers activities to get started.
  • Joining pieces develops fine motor skills and patience.
  • Suitable from age 6, with plenty of challenge for older children.
  • Works with Original Polydron pieces you may already own.

Supporting learners with SEND and learning differences

Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences understand shape and space ideas that are hard to picture on paper. Because children can see through a Frameworks model, every edge and vertex stays visible, so counting properties does not rely on memory or imagination. Bright colours give clear visual cues, and joining the pieces offers regular fine motor practice. Adults can start with simple shapes and build up to larger models at each learner's pace.

The Original Polydron Frameworks Basic Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences.
