What is the Original Polydron Super Class Set?

The Original Polydron Super Class Set (code 10-3500) is a 276-piece shape construction kit from Polydron for children aged 4 and over. It contains 90 equilateral triangles, 60 squares, 60 isosceles triangles, 30 hexagons, 24 pentagons and 12 octagons in 6 colours. The set also includes 24 double-sided model building work cards and comes in a sturdy, reusable carton.

How do the work cards help children build?

The 24 double-sided work cards give children a clear starting point. Six cards have green borders and show 2D shapes, and eighteen have red borders and show 3D models. Children can work through the cards, then go on to design their own models with the 276 pieces. Adding octagons and isosceles triangles to the core shapes widens the range of nets, tessellations and solids a group can make.

For schools

  • Supports 2D and 3D shape, nets, tessellation, faces, edges and vertices across KS1 and KS2, with extension work at KS3.
  • Colour-coded work cards separate 2D and 3D tasks, which helps with differentiated group work.
  • 276 pieces let several groups build at once.
  • Concrete models support Quality First Teaching and SEND provision before pictorial and abstract work.
  • Dishwasher safe at 70°C and stored in a reusable carton.

For parents and home use

  • Work cards give children ready-made challenges to try independently.
  • Joining pieces gives regular fine motor practice.
  • Six colours make patterns and models bright and varied.
  • Open-ended building keeps children of 4 and over interested as their skills grow.

Supporting learners with SEND and learning differences

Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences make sense of maths ideas that can feel abstract on paper. Picture-based work cards show the goal clearly, and green and red borders signal whether a task is 2D or 3D. Children can touch, turn and count faces rather than imagining them, and snapping pieces together builds fine motor control.

The Original Polydron Super Class Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences, for use in the classroom or at home.
